How do I create a Course Objective?

How do I modify an existing Course Objective?

You cannot directly edit a Course Objective. To modify an existing Course Objective, you need to archive the current Course Objective and then create a new Course Objective with your intended modifications.

After a Course Director (“Submitter”) has submitted a new Course Objective, it will be reviewed by multiple teams (“Reviewer”). If the Reviewer would like to make modifications, the Reviewer can send it back to the Course Director for modifications.  An email will be sent to the Course Director with an editable URL to make the necessary changes.

How do I delete an existing Course Objective?

To  maintain historical records of the curriculum as required by the LCME, Course Directors do not have the ability to permanently delete a Course Objective. Instead, they have the ability to Archive. Archiving will remove the Course Objective from the Course and hide it but keep a record of it for historical purposes.

What does archiving a Course Objective mean?

Archiving a Course Objective means that the Course Director no longer wants to use that Course Objective in the course (i.e.,  the Course Director is removing it from the Curriculum Map). The Course Objective will no longer be associated to the Course.

What does restoring a Course Objective mean?

A Course Director can restore an Archived Course Objective. Doing so removes its Archive status and makes it an Active Course Objective for that Course.

What does Submit for Approval mean? Where does the Course Objective go?

When a Course Director submits a Course Objective for approval, it will go to the Phase Team for review. Once the Phase Team reviews, it will go to the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC) for formal approval.

How do I know the status of my Course Objective ?

When a Course Objective is first created it, will go into the Pending tab that Course Directors can see when they select the desired course in the Learning Network menu. If the Reviewer decides that revisions need to be made by the Course Director, they will send it back to the Submitter. The Course Director will get a notification via email, and they will see it under Needs Changes. Once the Course Objective has been formally Approved by UMEC, it will appear in the Approved tab.

What does Pending Approval mean? What does Needs Changes mean? What does Approved mean?

Pending means that a Course Objective has yet to be fully reviewed by all reviewers (phase leadership and UMEC), and it is not yet an active Course Objective for the course. Needs Changes means that a reviewer has decided that revisions need to be made to the Course Objective by the Course Director before approval can be requested. Approved means that the Course Objective was reviewed and approved as an active Course Objective for the Course.

What do I do if I don’t have any changes to make on the approved Course Objectives?

When a Course Director wants to confirm that they have reviewed their approved Course Objectives and don’t have any changes to make, they will select the Needs Review/Mark as Reviewed button on the Course Objective in the Approved Tab. This acknowledges that you have read through the Course Objective and can attest to the relevance. You will also be asked whether you would like to roll these Course Objectives over to the next Academic Year. Once you have selected Yes/No the Needs Review/Mark as Reviewed button will change to Reviewed and log your name and the time you reviewed the Course Objective.
